A piece for "New York is Book Country" some years back. It's an incredible annual event where parts of NYC are blocked out and there are signings in the middle of the streets. I was on Madison near 57th and signed for a couple of hours. The Superman and Batman here are less rendered than normal to look a bit more "cartoony" and open so as to be more "civilian" friendly. On almost all the promo art I do for DC--I'm asked to make all the characters, esp Superman look more happy. I'm so used to drawing the scowl on Batman that it makes it tough to draw him another way...sometimes I manage a small, knowing grin on him heh.
As for Batman that's his nature. He's not really a "super hero" rather a menace that we need to balance our culture but this really does work.
Without reading your description I thought the same thing about the two characters acting more like civilians than heroes.
I would love to be at this event. It sounds incredible. Heheh, guess I'll have to give NY one more chance. I visited the lovely city once and almost got killed... and not by a taxi... DOVES!!! They are evil I tell you!
Awesome work.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
